Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do you support children's individual learning styles?

  • We will support children's individual learning styles and interests by overseeing, documenting and tracking.

  • Observing the children will allow us to identify their learning style whether that be that they are visual leaners who learn best through visual aids such as images and demonstrations.

  • Auditory learners where they learn through listening and this could be with verbal instructions, stories and music.

  • Kinaesthetic learners where they learn best through hands-on experiences and physical activities.

  • By recognising how each child learns this will then allow us to accommodate for the different learning styles, understanding each child as an individual and therefore creating an inclusive and effective learning environment for all.

Q. How do you support learning through play?

•    Children learn best through play, and it is our job to make sure that children are provided with the activities and resources where they can test their ideas, practise new skills and new words, develop friendships, take risks, and begin to make sense of the world around them.
•    We will make sure that the children are provided with high quality play experiences through creating an enabling environment.

Q. What are your staff to child ratios?

•    For children under the age of 2 years old the ratio is 1 staff member for every 3 children, and this is due to babies needing more individualized attention and care.
•    For children between the age of 2 to 3, the ratio Is 1 staff member for every 4 children. Although toddlers begin to become a bit more independent, they still need significant support.
•    And for children aged 3 and over the ratio is 1 staff member to 8 children.
•    It is very important to maintain appropriate staff to child ratios as it is essential when ensuring the safety of the children.

Q. How will you cater for each individual dietary requirements and allergies?

•    Before your child starts attending our nursery, we will ask that you fill out a form stating any dietary requirements or allergies they have, or you think they may have.
•    If we feel as though we need any more information we will then arrange and more in-depth discussion.
•    We will then record this information and share it with the staff within the nursery.
•    We have clear procedures in place to ensure that all staff are aware of any symptom’s children may have and any treatments there may be.
•    We ensure all our meals are catered to all dietary requirements and allergies and Ingredients are regularly assessed for allergens and checked before every use.
•    If your child has a dietary requirement or an allergy this will be displayed within the kitchen, where food is prepared and within the rooms throughout the nursery to make sure it is always there for staff to refer to.
•    Before each meal is made, we will then also record which children are present within the setting.
•    Each child with an allergy or a dietary requirement will also receive a place mat with their face on stating what their requirements are.
•    Only staff who have their food hygiene certificate will handle food within the setting.
